Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Senior Optical Engineer to lead a team of 5-7 young optical engineers. As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing optical systems and components for an optical payload which will qualify for space flight onboard our satellites. Your expertise in optical design, analysis, and testing the relevant class of optical payloads will be crucial in advancing our products and technologies.

Responsibilities:
Optical System Design: (Desirable)
- Conceptualizing optical payload of a satellite
- Complete design of a telescope including reflective, refractive, dispersive elements and sensors/detector systems
- Detailed ray tracing, analysis, Image quality assessment employing Zemax/Code V Software
- Utilize optical modelling software like Zemax/Code V to simulate and optimize the performance of optical components and detector systems.
- Image Quality Parameter estimation and optimization of MTF and SNR
- Study and perform thermal gradient analysis on performance
Prototyping, Testing and Characterization:
- Conduct rigorous optical testing and analysis of payload to measure performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Relative Spectral Response of the multispectral and Hyperspectral imager
- Non-uniform sensitivity assessment of Camera/Sensor Electronics
- MTF and SNR measurements
Research and Innovation:
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in optical technologies and research to propose new ideas and innovative solutions.
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property through patents and publications.
Hand-on experience:
- First hand experience employing a. Collimator, b. Monochromator, c. Integrated Light sphere and d. CMOS sensors
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure optical systems and components meet high-quality standards and comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s, Master’s, in Optical Engineering, Physics with Photonics specialization or a related field.
Experience in optical system design and analysis, preferably in an industrial or research setting.
Proficiency in optical modelling software, such as Zemax, Code V and experience in utilizing other optical design tools.
Strong knowledge of optics principles, optical materials, and optical component selection.
Familiarity with optical metrology and testing techniques, such as interferometry or MTF measurement.
Hands-on experience with optical prototyping, alignment, and testing.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative and practical solutions.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You must hold 5+ years’ experience in the relevant field
