Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Architecture Development:
- Define and develop the mechanical architecture for satellite systems, including structures, mechanisms, and thermal systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical, propulsion, and payload subsystems.
- Drive the selection of materials, manufacturing processes, and design approaches to meet mission requirements and cost targets.
- Technical Leadership:
- Serve as the technical authority for satellite mechanical engineering, providing guidance on design, analysis, and testing.
- Evaluate and validate mechanical design concepts through rigorous analysis and simulation.
- Oversee trade studies to optimize system performance, weight, cost, and manufacturability.
- Project and Team Management:
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Develop project plans, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure timely and successful delivery.
- Mentor team members, providing technical and professional development opportunities.
- Design and Analysis:
- Direct the design of satellite structures, deployment mechanisms, and thermal management systems.
- Oversee detailed structural and thermal analyses, ensuring compliance with space mission requirements.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, ensuring they meet industry standards and customer expectations.
- Testing and Qualification:
- Oversee the development and execution of environmental testing, including vibration, thermal vacuum, and shock tests.
- Ensure all mechanical systems are qualified for space environments and meet mission reliability standards.
- Address and resolve anomalies during testing and operation.
- Strategic Collaboration:
- Work closely with program management, systems engineering, and business development teams to align mechanical designs with customer needs and program goals.
- Engage with suppliers, partners, and customers to define requirements and manage technical interfaces.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of mechanical designs, analyses, and testing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including NASA, ECSS, and ISO guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is a plus.
- Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in satellite or aerospace mechanical engineering, including roles as a technical lead or architect.
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams and delivering space-qualified mechanical systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in satellite structural design, thermal management, and mechanical systems integration.
- Proficiency in simulation and analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus) and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo).
- In-depth knowledge of materials science, manufacturing techniques, and environmental testing for space applications.
- Leadership Skills:
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Other Requirements:
- Experience in launch vehicle integration and satellite deployment environments is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with space industry standards and best practices.
